THE ISRAELI BUREAU "NATIV"

Nativ (also known as "Lishat Hakesher") was the liaison bureau between Israel and the Jews of the USSR and Eastern Europe (now the Jews of the CIS and Baltic states). "Nativ" can be translated as "way, path". The predecessor of Nativ was the organization "Mossad Le'aliyah Bet". It was created in 1937, and headed by Shaul Avigur, who is known as "the father of Israeli intelligence". Nativ was tasked to spy and spread Zionist propaganda in the USSR and other Eastern European countries to increase the stream of immigration to Israel. The high effectiveness of Nativ showed that the creation of this bureau for use in Eastern European operations was justified. Nativ especially focused its efforts on the USSR, where the second largest population of diaspora Jews lived. From its creation in to the 90s, Nativ executed three operations: "Jewish movement", "Let my people go", and "Big Aliyah". However, the efforts of Nativ should not be overstated, because their success came only because the enemies of socialism put into this effort Western mass media, NGOs, as well as diplomatic, intelligence, and other special services.
