The post-colonial pan-Islamism and recognition of the ummah as a united people is actually the opposite of divisive and dangerous. It's actually a form of internationalism that has found common cause with leftist anti-imperialism. As for the Muslim petite-bourgois, their use of the term ummah is widely reviled as being deeply hypocritical as they grind the peoples of the Muslim world under their boot.
